We (sort of) made it! Toronto has finally entered step 3, reopening nightclubs and restaurants for indoor service. While we want everyone to live their best lives this summer, we also want you to be cautious of where you’re spending your hard earned money!
If you’ve been following LC4R then you already know what our concerns are: venues that capitalize off of Black culture while simultaneously exploiting Black people. You asked for a list and we delivered!
The following list was based on the following categories (2020):
Written statements regarding (alleged) anti-black racism from former/current employees and guests
Lack of diversity on social media feeds
Lack of diversity among staff (particularly front of house positions i.e. Bottle Service, Bartender, Management)
Lack of support for Black Lives Matter in 2020

This list isn’t intended to “cancel” anyone. We believe everyone (businesses included) should have the opportunity to do better. 2020 was a rocky year for hospitality to say the least, we can only hope the above have made major changes. We’ll be watching!
